Originally from Northern California, Joy’s career began in 1994 when she began working as a hairstylist to support herself while attending UC Berkeley full-time. In 2001 she moved to New York to pursue a career in editorial hairstyling, training at Bumble and Bumble. After numerous shows including Zac Posen. Marc Jacobs, Carlos Miele, and Jeremy Scott, working with industry bigwigs such as Guido, Laurent Phillipon, and Ward for publications including "Italian Vogue” and “Harper’s Bazzar”, she decided to redirect her focus back to a salon practice. In 2004, she founded Deluxe Salon, still in its original location in Williamsburg.
